30-50% losses in your products due to problems with closures, I am sure that any business would look for alternatives because it hurts the back pocket too much. Penfolds are still using cork primarily due to their export market in Asia which cork is seen to be superior.

It is a hot start to the year and we are starting with a few reports on some interesting wines that I have drunk and so that we stock. Recently we were given a bottle of the Bullers Cellar Door Release Tempranillo 2009. The nose screamed Tempranillo however the palate feel was one of astringancy for some reason. It needed food to balance out it lack of middle palate flavour but like many tmepranillo’s it was a good attenmpt but leaves the Bullers crew with plenty to work with.

Sampled a Bailey’s Very Old AVB Oloroso in a 375ml bottle and was plesently surprised. Through the winery we think is was produced in the early 1970′s and was elegant and powerful and display plenty of that uniquly rancid trait. Quite nutty as well but an experience as Bailey’s never made this in any commercial quanitities but more of an experiment of one of their wine makers.

Langhorne Creek Cabernet Sauvigon 2008

Langhorne Creek is a bit of a favourite of mine. Known as the Gateway to the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia. It is one of Australia’s oldest region with Frank Pott’s first planting grapes in 1860′s at the now heritage listed winery “Bleasedale”. Interstingly 70% of all plantings in the region are of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, covering over 5800 hectares of land and is recognised as the second largest grape producing region in South Australia.

Ladies & Gentleman,

There is a small parcel of exceptional Barossa Shiraz that has arrived. 2005 vintage and sold in the US market for $30. Only every so often we come across wine of this quality so if your interested then call 03 98302833 for orders. Stocks are extremely limited.

Highly recommended wines:

Margaret River Cabernet Merlot 2008

Powerful and intense like a good blend from a premier region like Margaret River should display. More in a Bordeaux style yet retains that classic aussie bold fruit drive. Perfect with a lamb dinner or even a old fashion style hamburger.
